Staying Calm and Productive During COVID-19

Two months ago our lives seemed pretty normal. We were going to work, going to the mall, going to the movies, and downing mimosas with our friends at Sunday brunch. Since then, the world we live in has become very outlandish. Social-distancing is in effect, and schools and businesses are temporarily closed. Who would've thought that this would become our new reality? The Coronavirus has changed the way we live our daily lives.

But we can still find some positivity in all of this chaos. The world was already in shambles before this pandemic, and now I feel like the universe is forcing us to stop. This is a time for us to become whole, this a time for us to self-heal, pray, connect with our higher self, connect with God, and strengthen our spirituality. This is also a time for us to just relax and be present. In the midst of these unprecedented times it's imperative that we take care of ourselves mentally and physically.

This is the perfect time for us to become more self-aware and self-reflect. Don't stress and worry over things that you have no control over, panicking will only stress you out. Pay attention to what's important to you, plant your seeds now, and get aligned with your purpose.

How Can We Stay Sane During This Pandemic?

Even though we have more free-time, that doesn't necessarily mean we have to feel like we're trapped at home. May is Mental Health Awareness month, in the midst of the Coronavirus, we have to make sure that we're making our mental health our main priority. The outbreak of COVID-19 may be stressful for some people. Fear and anxiety about a global pandemic can become overwhelming and lead to strong emotions. As we settle into this new normal, find ways you can reduce stress. Remember to pause, breath, be present, and notice how you feel. Take a break if you need to, don't continuously consume your mind with news updates about COVID-19. Challenge yourself to pick up some new hobbies, and most importantly, seek help from a mental health professional if you ever feel overwhelmed or unsafe.

Ways to Stay Calm and Productive at Home:

Below are some tips on how to stay calm can productive at home, during this pandemic:
  • Write down individual goals for each day, such as "spend time with God" or "read for 30 minutes".
  • Start your day off with a smoothie or some tea.
  • Try meditating for 5-10 minutes to reduce stress & anxiety. (Liberate is a great app that has some meditating exercises).
  • Listen to some calming & relaxing music. (I like to listen to R&B music, such as Jhene Aiko)
  • Listen to your favorite podcast
  • Journal, and write down your thoughts. You can even start a manifestation journal.
  • Try a new recipe, Pinterest has some great ones.
  • Read a book for 20-30 mins. (I like to read self-help books)
  • Get active. Take a run, a walk, ride a bike, or sign up for a live stream workout class.
  • Make sure you're getting enough sleep.
